Good Morning and welcome to the cover of d’art e Good Morning and welcome to the cover of d’art et de culture de Monaco Thank you for the cover and the feature on my work! 🙏
études à la Parson School of Design de New York, Mary Rozzi

Borrow Trouble caused some trouble in trying to finish the recording. It began as a contemplative acoustic morality tale and shape shifted itself into the sound of trouble itself. It’s a mess that holds its own logic. It’s the convincing cacophony that thoughts can be. It saws away at you until your overwhelm pops an air supply in the form of another idea, a solution that starts with accepting there’s no such thing as perfection. [Filmmaker] Mike Mills directed me deeper into the tangle, insisted I play drums “because you’re not a drummer!” and @rooseyaghmai brought the fist pumping drone of violins. Early on, when I was writing it @charlesspearin said “yah but what does borrowing trouble mean?” And I said “It’s an expression from the old days.”, which became the chorus. May as well let the song explain, like I’m doing now.

This was made in a type of ultra healthy collaboration that defies the usual credits enjoyed throughout history. Oops, raising ideals?! The collective included @colbyrichardson spinning the analogue plates that is his art form and multitudes’ing me, @heathergoodchild in an art direction/ costuming mindset, @maryrozzi directing the photography and doing this dance we’ve done for years of camera and subject, @counterglance as our intrepid producer keeping the chaos productive, @pamwiggy giving my flippable, tossable silky locks, and many others listed below. The Subjective Collective strikes again x

Since I’ve been in Europe this week I’m fighti Since I’ve been in Europe this week I’m fighting with the algorithm. As an artist I’m obliged to use this platform to a showcase my work, and I’m getting used to showing it all in a tiny little tile!
Over the past 6 months since erasing my feed and starting anew, I seriously cannot figure out why sometimes I’m ghosted. WHO has decided what will be seen and what gets buried in the depths of the ether. I have followers across all the time zones. I want to be here and be present and engage in a creative discourse. I remain a generally optimistic being, but damn WTF?!?!
PS. I LOVE this image. My archive is so massive and I just found this one. So many unseen works. I LOVE MY JOB. Thank you for listening to my rant! 😂
Love, Mary ✨

I took a mini pause on posting. Got a little crazy I took a mini pause on posting. Got a little crazy busy, but I’m back now! Here’s a sweet polaroid of moi from the early 90’s. We used to endlessly test the light until it was perfect. Here is just a handful….I have a HUGE bin of these. So cool to see baby me as an apprentice. I was a photo assistant for about 8 years in NYC. I learned everything I know on the job. Thankful to all the epic photographers I worked for in that period. Especially- Michel Comte, David LaChapelle, Michael Lavine and Satoshi Saikusa. They gave me the tools to go out on my own. Thanks to them I can shoot any scenario at anytime with any light and am a master problem solver. ✨

Since erasing my entire feed late last year , I’ Since erasing my entire feed late last year , I’ve been taking a deeper look at my 30 year body of work. I’ve seen so many themes and similarities in how I shoot. I’ve always known I had a strong point of view, which is a fundamental part in being able to call yourself a photographer, but after hundreds of shoots and thousands of rolls of film, I continue to doubt my work. I decided to embrace that part wholly and fully because now understand that that is what it takes to be a great artist! These images are definitely up there on my list of favorite of all time. They are from a series we shot for my magazine @theseptmeberissues - first Issue, Issue 0 - about the origins of beauty - looking back and being inspired by the first use of make up in ancient Egypt. I decided to call the beauty section of the magazine

Today’s post is an ode to my love for working th Today’s post is an ode to my love for working these beautiful people. @jeromecrousseau and @roxane_mesquida - we have been collaborating since 2010. I love you both so much and that my job has brought me to this lifelong friendship. It was so hard to choose 10 images for this post. @secretjcr you’re a legend!
Thank you for trusting me and my visions all these years! ❤️✨
Roxane, you are like no other. I could photograph you forever. ❤️✨
More from my archive of personal work with Parisia More from my archive of personal work with Parisian muses Lila + Chloe. For a time, I used to drive to a forest just past the CDG airport. It’s a private place that I found on my search to be able to shoot outside. I think I frequented this place regularly for about 6-7 years. We had no money, but all the creative freedom in the world. These were certainly and most ironically the best of times. ✨
Another image from my transformative time in Paris Another image from my transformative time in Paris. In 2000 i lost my Chinatown loft in NYC, threw my stuff in storage and thought I’d try my luck as a photographer in Paris. I didn’t speak French when I moved there and it was one of the hardest times of my life- looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing! I speak fluent French now and I lived there for 12 years. I made lifetime friends and still feel most comfortable there as well as seen and heard as an artist. This is another image from my Lila + Chloe series - when shooting nudes wasn’t taboo.
Shot on tri-x 4x5
fun little fact - shot in @andresaraiva back garden.
I’m a bit late for the algorithm today😝 but I I’m a bit late for the algorithm today😝 but I’m posting anyway. You MIGHT see this again tomorrow if it gets buried in the deep ark depths of this platform.
During my mentorship program we talk ALOT about your favorite image that you’ve ever taken. This one definitely hits my top list. I love it more and more as the years go by.
This is from a series that I shot back in 2007 during my Paris period. I had no jobs and was seriously struggling to get by. Luckily my photography kept me going and I ended up with some of the best work and some of the proudest of my career. I spent every euro I had on my 4x5 film and processing and hours printing in the darkroom. Image making will always keep me sane! @lilarouquet @chloe__para you guys are the best thing that could have happened to me! 🙏❤️
Cool fact- this was shot in the courtyard of @andresaraiva place.
